Non-invasive slimming: technologies and methods

Non-invasive slimming covers the techniques that reduce localised fat deposits and reshape the figure without surgery. Here is how they work and how to choose between them.

What are we talking about?

These techniques use energy applied from the outside (cold, electromagnetic field, ultrasound, radiofrequency) to destroy or mobilise fat cells and rework the body's contours. Unlike liposuction, the skin remains intact: the affected fat cells are gradually eliminated by the body's natural mechanisms.

Three ways to act on fat

Some technologies destroy adipocytes directly, such as cryolipolysis and ultrasonic cavitation. Others focus on the muscle: EMT triggers intense contractions that increase muscle mass and prompt the body to draw on local fat stores. Finally, radiofrequency and suction-based techniques remodel the dermis and boost lymphatic drainage.

The technologies at a glance

Cryolipolysis: cold crystallises the lipids in adipocytes, 1 to 3 sessions. EMT: supramaximal contractions tone the muscle, 4 to 8 sessions. Cavitation at 40 kHz: microbubbles weaken fat cells, 6 to 12 sessions. Bipolar radiofrequency: heat contracts collagen and firms the skin, 6 to 10 sessions. Suction, palper-rouler and LED: work on circulation and skin texture, 8 to 12 sessions.

The areas concerned

Abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, arms, back and double chin are the most requested areas. These treatments target localised excess fat, not overall weight loss: they work best on a client with a stable weight, alongside a healthy lifestyle. They also meet requests for toning, post-pregnancy body reshaping or improving cellulite.

Combining several techniques

Combinations are common: one technology that acts on fat, another that tones the muscle or firms the skin. It is advisable to space out sessions of different technologies on the same area.

Precautions

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, ongoing cancer, serious clotting disorders, heart problems and active skin infections are contraindications. For EMT, metal implants, pacemakers and epilepsy rule out the treatment. Where there is a medical history, medical advice is required before starting.
