Laser hair removal: body areas and protocols

Why each area is different

Hair density, thickness, colour, skin sensitivity and regrowth rate vary from one area to another. These differences influence the settings, the duration and the number of sessions.

Indicative session lengths

According to the source: 5 to 10 minutes for the upper lip, 10 to 15 for the underarms, 20 to 30 for a classic bikini line, 30 to 45 for a full bikini, 30 to 40 for half legs, 45 to 60 for full legs or the full back. A full body takes several hours: it is better to spread the areas over several appointments.

Number of sessions and intervals

Most areas require 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. The full bikini often requires more. Areas with slow regrowth (underarms, bikini line, back) can be spaced a little further apart.

Sensitive areas

The underarms and bikini line are more sensitive: SHR mode and good cooling improve comfort. On the full bikini, the proximity of the mucous membranes calls for great caution.

Fine or light hair

On fine, blonde or lightly pigmented hair (arms, nape of the neck, female back), effectiveness is lower and more sessions are needed. Red or white hair responds very poorly.

Face and dark skin

On the face, always carry out a test from skin type III upwards. On skin types IV to VI, reduce the energy, favour the appropriate wavelength and SHR mode, and space sessions further apart.
