1064 nm wavelength (Nd:YAG)
1064 nm is the safest wavelength for hair removal on dark skin. Its key characteristics at a glance.
Definition
1064 nm historically corresponds to the Nd:YAG laser, in the infrared. It is the hair removal wavelength least absorbed by melanin and the one that penetrates the deepest.
Why it suits dark skin
Because the epidermis absorbs little of this light, the risk of burns and pigmentation marks is lower on skin types V and VI. On the other hand, absorption by the hair is also lower: suitable settings and often more sessions are needed.
Settings
Longer pulses limit heating of the epidermis. Energy is adjusted according to skin type, with a preliminary test on dark skin.
In Neocure devices
The EpilPro MAX incorporates an Nd:YAG-type wavelength at 1064 nm, alongside 755, 808 and 940 nm.
