SHR mode or HR mode: two approaches to laser hair removal
A single powerful pulse or a series of gentle pulses: HR and SHR modes destroy the follicle differently. How they differ and when to use each.

HR mode
This is the classic approach: one high-energy pulse per spot, which heats the follicle very quickly and destroys it with heat. It is effective but more painful and requires careful cooling, with greater risks on dark skin.
SHR mode
The handpiece glides over the area delivering closely spaced low-energy pulses. Heat builds up gradually in the follicle to a more moderate temperature, sufficient to trigger the programmed death of the cells that produce the hair, without harming the epidermis.
What this means for your client
SHR is clearly more comfortable and suits all skin types. It also allows large areas to be treated faster. According to the source, the final effectiveness of the two modes is comparable: the difference lies mainly in comfort and safety.
When to choose which?
SHR for large areas, sensitive areas and olive or dark skin. HR for targeted areas on fair skin, or when you want a precise single pulse. The EpilPro MAX offers both modes; the EpilPro II has a sweeping mode.
Number of sessions
SHR mode does not reduce the number of sessions: the limit comes from the hair growth cycle, which stays the same whatever the mode.
