Skin firming: non-invasive technologies
HIFU, radiofrequency, LED: three ways to boost collagen and firm the skin without surgery. How they work and how to combine them.
The shared principle
All these technologies aim to stimulate collagen. They create controlled heating or stimulation in the skin, which causes an immediate contraction of the fibres and then, over several weeks, the production of new collagen (neocollagenesis). The skin gains firmness and elasticity.
HIFU
Focused ultrasound creates small heat points at precise depths, down to the SMAS, the layer worked on in a surgical facelift. Few sessions, gradual results over several months. This is the technology of the UltraLift III.
Radiofrequency
A current heats the dermis more diffusely and more gently. Monopolar goes deeper; bipolar stays more superficial. It is performed as a course of several sessions. The BodyPerfect III uses bipolar radiofrequency on the body.
LED
Red or near-infrared light stimulates skin cell activity without heating it. Its effects are gentler and build up over regular sessions.
Who is it for?
Mild to moderate sagging, realistic expectations and availability for several sessions. Significant sagging is more a matter for surgery.
Combining technologies
Combinations are common: HIFU and radiofrequency, which act at different depths, or radiofrequency and LED. Space treatments one to two weeks apart. After injections or a peel, follow the waiting times advised by the doctor.
