Technology guide
Reducing localised fat without surgery
Stomach, flanks, thighs, arms, double chin: each area responds differently depending on the technology. How to advise your client and who to offer these treatments to.
The principle
The aim is to reduce a fat deposit concentrated in one area, without overall weight loss and without affecting neighbouring areas. Non-invasive technologies act locally, where the applicator is placed.
What works best by area
Flanks, upper abdomen and love handles respond well to most technologies. The lower abdomen is often more resistant. Thighs are well suited to EMT, which also tones the muscle. The backs of the thighs, where cellulite dominates, benefit from cavitation and radiofrequency. The double chin is a classic indication for cryolipolysis. Arms and back respond to all techniques.
Choosing the technology
Cryolipolysis for small and medium areas, in one or two sessions. EMT when you also want to tone the muscle, as a course of several sessions. Cavitation for resistant areas and cellulite, as a longer course. Radiofrequency to firm the skin as a finishing step.
The ideal client
A weight that has been stable for several months, good general health, localised fat deposits rather than overall excess weight, and realistic expectations: you refine an area, you do not change a figure. A stable lifestyle helps maintain the result.
When not to treat
Pregnancy and breastfeeding, ongoing cancer, skin infection on the area. For EMT, pacemaker and neurostimulator. For cryolipolysis, cryoglobulinaemia and severe Raynaud's. Lipoedema, lymphoedema, anticoagulant treatment, poorly controlled diabetes or previous liposuction on the area require medical advice.
Combining treatments
Avoid following one fat-destroying technique with another on the same area. However, combining a technique on fat with another on muscle or skin is common, leaving a few weeks between them on the same area.
